This is the second in a series of ‘jet lag’ caches
– interesting places I have found on business trips to Japan
while walking very early in the morning. When you arrive in Japan
from overseas, your jet lag (jisai bokke) makes you wake up very
early. Plus, if you are in Japan in the summer time, you will find
that sunrise is much earlier than in other countries because Japan
does not use daylight savings time. So, if you want to explore on
foot from your hotel, morning is a good time.
This one is in Sapporo. It should be within walking distance of
almost any hotel that is in the city. Sapporo has a famous symbol
that would be an obvious choice for a virtual cache, but I thought
that was too simple. But still, Sapporo needed it’s first
geocache. These coordinates will take you to a nice park near that
symbol, and when I was here during Yuki Matsuri (the Snow
Festival), there were many super snow sculptures nearby.
To log this virtual cache, find a tall silvery metal tube
(almost a cylinder) that has two sets of 4 colored lines on it.
Email me and tell me the 4 colors, in order from top to bottom.
(Don't post the colors here!) (This tube is actually part of a
flood monitoring system of the nearby rivers.) I’m also
curious to see if the color of the electronic letters on the tube
ever change – they were green when I was there. And, if you
want, post a picture of the park nearby (please don’t post
the object itself) in the season you were there. It will be fun to
see the park in many different seasons!
