Strangulated (Triangulated)
Treasure
This cache requires you to find the cache by triangulation. If
you are good at your maths and bring a scientific calculator (with
Sin, Cos and Tan), you should be able to determine the exact
co-ordinates of the cache. Otherwise, you will need to find the
cache location by using your GPS and/or a compass.
At the published co-ordinates you will find the paperboy. He is
neither helpful nor friendly. In fact, no matter how nicely you
ask, or no matter how much money you offer him, he'll simply refuse
to sell you a paper - a rather cold character indeed. Within the
near proximity, you'll see other similar characters. How many such
characters are there in total, including the paperboy?
Number of characters = A
B =
(A x 6) - 2
From this point to the cache, the direction is
B° - See
Note Below
Now proceed to S 37° 52.235 E 145° 01.583. Here you will find a
memorial to those who died in World War 1. Calculate how many names
are on the plaque. This number is
C.
D =
C - 108
From this point to the cache, the direction is
D° - See
Note Below
Note: The directions given
from each of the two points are absolute. i.e. they are relative to
True North, not Magnetic North. (0° is True North, 180° is South).
If you use a compass, you will need to know how to correct for
this. This should not be a problem if you use your GPS.
To locate the cache, you need to find the point of intersection
of the two directions. Alternatively, you can do the mathematics in
one of several ways to calculate the exact co-ordinates of the
cache.
The cache is around the same size as a film canister and
contains just a log sheet.
What You Need:
You will need either:
- a scientific calculator and probably a pen and paper,
- a compass and knowledge how to correct for magnetic north,
or
- a method to use your GPS to find a location from two waypoints
and two directions.
