January 17 by pinch3 (95 found) What can I say besides what a majestic tree! and thanks for maintaining a cache near it since otherwise what would entice us to battle through the bush and up and down the steep riverbank to get to this spot? Love the way the fallen branches form arches reminiscent of a cathedrale or something. Since we came up from the river we didn't see the real gnarly,ent-like side until after dealing with the cache-- then we had to admire it all over again!

January 17 by kildonan61 (1212 found) This took a while to get to from the Maple Trail cache. Being on snowshoes, we wanted to avoid the ski trail as much as possible, which made for pretty tough going in the narrow portion of land just east of that cache. Finally the ski trail moved away from the riverbank, and the land by the bank became clear of deadfall so we could scout out a spot to get back on the river. Didn't look promising. In the end we slid down a fairly steep slope, but it was nevertheless an "opening" in the sheer cliffs all around there. As we walked along the river I was looking for an Ent, but didn't see one. pinch3 had to alert me that we had walked past. Went up the bank (much more accessible than what we left on the other side) and a short way in I could see the destination. Wow, that is a huge old tree. Found the cache fairly quickly - not enough snow to bury it yet. Left a geocoin and took the travel bug. Thanks for putting a cache here.
