CachinCin: My husband and I gave it a good search, but the cache does indeed seem to be gone. [:(] As Reticulatas stated, there has been a lot of landscaping going on nearby, and it could be that a worker took the cache away. Even if the cache were still there, we would have removed it so the new plantings would survive.
This was one of our first hides, and it has always been special for me. The llamas were there for about 1 year, then they went off to different fields. A large barn door with a painted llama remained on the hillside for several years, looking down over us as my dog and I walked here daily. Back then it was an undeveloped meadow full of songbirds, deer, and even the occasional coyote. On foggy mornings, we would watch the silent Harrier Hawks glide back and forth just above the top of the grass, listening for mice and voles to swoop down and catch. In late summer months, I would quickly fill a thermos mug full of blackberries to take home for breakfast after our walk. At all times of the year, model rockets and planes would be flying in the nearby field.
Although there were neighborhood protests and even lawsuits, the meadow was paved and more soccer fields were built. Aurie, my sweet geocaching canine buddy passed away not long after, and my heart just didn't let me visit the location very often. Today I said a last goodbye both to the cache and the location. It will remain in my memories as a treasured place.
