The Clos Pegase Winery in the town of Calistoga, California houses
an amazing art collection.
'The ever-growing art collection at Clos Pegase covers a range
of media - from sculptures in granite, bronze, marble, and wood -
to oils, watercolors, and collages, as well as rare artifacts and
antique vineyard tools. Displayed inside the offices and Visitors
Center are masterpieces of the Surrealist, Abstract, and Cobra
schools by such artists as Matta, Appel, Lipchitz, and Mantegna.
The collection includes over 300 paintings, posters, glassware,
engravings, sculptures, and wine-related artifacts. For example,
the Visitor Center features serpentine altar columns from 18th
century French and Spanish churches, two Venetian chandeliers, and
an exact replica of Michelangelo's Bacchus made from a cast taken
from the original in Florence.' (Source: www.artforamerica.net)
Visit the winery to just walk around the grounds or stay and
enjoy a wine tasting. Head to the coordinates and find an outdoor
sculpture featuring a thumb pointing skyward. On the sculpture,
find the name of the artist and the year it was created. There were
eight of these sculptures created -- you must also me which number
in the series this particular piece represents. Then email me the
results and log the cache!
