Søborg Castle is known from the 12th century. In those
days the cacstle was situated on an island in an inlet open to
Kattegat by Gilleleje.
In the 1130ies King Valdemar the Great handed over the place
– which at that time consisted of a fortified tower only
– to bishop Eskild of Roskilde. In the middle of the 1130ies
Eskild was appointed as a bishop in Roskilde and a few years later
he became archbishop in Lund, Sweden. Eskild improved the
fortifications of Søborg so that in stead of the original
tower he built a ring wall with two towers and a residential house,
a residential house in stone (a palatium), a round church and
household buildings on the inside of the wall.
At that time political strife prevailed in the country and in
1161 the king won back Søborg Castle by cunning deeds. Later
in the 12th century Søborg Castle is further improved and
through the middle ages it serves as a residence for several kings
and their vassals.
Søborg Castle was also used as a maximum security prison
for the most dangerous enemies of the king and of the kingdom.
Amongst the prisoners was Prince Buris in 1167 and archbishop Jens
Grand in 1294–1295. The latter was helped to escape by a cook
employed at the castle.
Søborg Castle was inhabited until the ‘Feud of the
Counts’ in 1534–1535, when the castle presumably was
destroyed. In 1577 the castle was subjected to Kronborg Castle and
the vassal at Kronborg gets a permit to collect stones from
Søborg Castle. An English envoy reports in 1588 of ruins on
an island by the town of Søborg.
Your task: Find a certain sign post - with information
and illustrations - located in or near the ruin:
The coordinates N56° 05.442' E012° 18.637' do not point at this sign - they only indicate
where to find Søborg Castle Ruin. When you get there take a
stroll round the site to find the sign post. It will not be
difficult.
There are three illustrations on the sign post. On the largest
illustration is shown a number of people. How many people exactly?
How many of these people wear a top hat?
Below the illustration you will find some text. Which king is
mentioned by his name?
When you have the right answers you should e-mail them to
me via my profile including your email address as I do not reply
via your profile.
Do not enter a Found it!-log before you receive my e-mail
with permission to do so. Found it!-logs posted without
permission will be deleted without prior warning.
For obvious reasons you are not to mention
your answers in your on-line log!
Pictures from the ruin not showing
the sign posts are welcomed.
You could do a bit of after-caching in the nearby Kongenshave
(King’s Garden) - N56° 05.217' E012° 18.886' - when
you have ‘found’ your answers.
Enjoy ‘being ruined’ ...
biskop Eskild i Roskilde. I midten af 1130'erne blev Eskild biskop
i Roskilde og få år senere ærkebiskop i Lund i
Sverige.
slottet.
Søborg Slot var beboet indtil Grevens Fejde i
1534–1535, hvor det formentligt blev ødelagt. I 1577
ruinen:
Koordinaterne N56° 05.442' E012° 18.637' peger
ikke direkte på dette skilt - de
viser blot hen til Søborg Slotsruin. Tag en spadseretur
rundt på stedet for at finde skiltet. Det bliver ikke
svært.
Der er tre illustrationer på skiltet. På den
største illustration er vist et antal mennesker.
Præcis hvor mange mennesker? Hvor mange af disse mennesker
bærer høj hat?
Under illustrationen finder du noget tekst. Hvilken konge
nævnes ved navn?
Når du har de rigtige svar, e-mailer du dem til mig
via min profil inkl. din emailadresse, da jeg ikke svarer via din
profil.
Vent med at logge en Found it! til du har modtaget min
e-mail med godkendelse af svaret. Ikke-godkendte Found it!-logs
vil blive slettet uden forudgående varsel.
Af selv-indlysende årsager må
du ikke nævne dine svar i din on-line log!
Billeder fra ruinen som ikke viser
informationsskiltene er velkomne.
Du kunne overveje lidt after-caching i den nærliggende
Kongenshave - N56° 05.217' E012° 18.886' – når
du har ‘fundet’ dine svar.
