Geocache Description:

IF YOU ARE AT BOTTOM OF WOODEN BOARDWALK, YOU ARE NOT IN THE CORRECT LOCATION! THERE IS NO NEED TO CLIMB OR DISTURB THE FRAGILE HILLSIDE. Read the page carefully! This cache was originally placed by framed on April 14, 2003. The Boyce Wetlands Cache was one of the South Hills' original scenic caches. This area was once owned by PennDOT, but is now a part of Upper St. Clair's Boyce Mayview Park. The township is dedicated to keeping the natural beauty of this area in tact.

Over the years, this cache has moved 2 times that I know of and is now in a location where it will stay! (Great find Yime). The cache is now a sealed tupperware-like container that can fit small trades and trackables. It is off the beaten path, but along a "trail". The terrain is a 2 (although 1.5 might be more accurate but I am not changing it after all of these years) and is a nice walk along a main trail most of the way to the cache. Depending on which direction you come from, you will leave the main trail just as you hit the boardwalk heading down into the wetlands. Keep in mind, you do not have to climb to get to the cache, so if you find yourself looking up a steep hillside, you are not where you should be. Just veer off the top of the wooden switchback path and bushwack a little to avoid disturbing the shale and hillside. This area is home to many of USC’s deer families, and is known to be a great place for birdwatchers. If you're lucky, you'll see a magnificent Blue Heron! While I was their checking coordinates, there was a busy woodpecker spotted from the cache site.

Fair warning for dog owners: The township continues to be wishy-washy about dogs in this particular area. framed and Yime and renruts too have spotted signs specifically asking that you don’t bring your pets into the wetlands area. There are also trail signs that indicate no dogs as well. With all of that said, I can tell you that people take their dogs everywhere else in the park despite the signage. Bringing the pooch is entirely your call. I have included the no dog attribute to the cache page.

(Original Note from framed): This used to be known as the "Beaver Tree" cache. It was on the other side of the lake, near a tree thats been chewed through by one of the wetland beavers. (N40 19.437 W80 06.525) The cache was hidden in a spot that got a little too much run off during storms, so I moved it. Happy caching!

(Note from current owner)Yemon Yime took great care of this cache for several years and we adopted it from them in April 2020. This was the first geocache we ever found as a family and it holds a special place in our hearts. Please let us know if there are any issues with the cache and we will try to get out in a timely manner to take care of it.
