There are four sightseeing towers in Kangasala. Haralanharju tower
is the tallest one.
This is the first cache in a series of four caches each close to a
sightseeing tower. The other three will be published during this
spring.
There has been a sightseeing tower at Harala Ridge since 1890's,
but the first tower was burned just before midsummer 1922 by some
hooligans from Tampere. The tower was rebuilt at 1932, and was
renovated 2003, only to be burned down by a disturbed mind on
January 10th 2007. Construction work for the current tower began
2008 and early summer 2009 saw the opening ceremony. The most
obvious road to the tower is usually closed during winter.
This is the place where Zacharias Topelius was inspired by the view
and wrote the song "Kesäpäivä Kangasalla" (A Summer Day in
Kangasala).
Initially this cache contains the following tradeable items:
- Candle! Post-It Note block
- reflector
- padlock with two keys
- Sony re-recordable MiniDisc
- a coin from Cyprus
Also there are the obvious

- the cache instructions
Tämä on ensimmäinen neljästä näkötornin lähelle sijoittuvasta
kätköstä. Loput kolme julkaistaan kevään aikana.
Haralanharjulla on ollut näkötorni jo 1890-luvulta asti, mutta
alkuperäinen torni tuhoutui tamperelaisten huligaanien sytyttämässä
tulipalossa juhannuksen alla 1922. Torni pystytettiin uudelleen
1932 ja remontoitiin 2003, tullakseen poltetuksi 10.1.2007.
Nykyisen tornin rakennustyöt aloitettiin 2008, ja alkukesästä 2009
vietettiin avajaisjuhaa. Luonnollisin tornille johtava tie on
yleensä suljettu talvisin
Tällä paikalla Sakari Topelius innostui kansallismaisemasta niin,
että kirjoitti tunnetun laulun "Kesäpäivä Kangasalla".
