Cache is located in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, in the Nutimik
Lake area. The trail is not well marked, but is clearly a trail. It
may be difficult to find at the beginning, but once you have found
it you should be OK.
The cache is along an unmarked (deer) trail in a Small "Tupperware"
container with blue lid. Inside the cache is a new log book with
pencil and sharpener.
Goodies include the following plus whatever was salvageable
inside the old cache...
- Bennie Salamander
- 5 in 1 Camping accessory
- Stickers of Winnie the Pooh
- Whistle
- Red devil fish hook
- Canada key chain
Everything is in Zip-loc bags inside the new cache container for
extra protection.
Parking is available at 3 places; all about the same distance
away. The Nutimik Lodge, Lake Nutimik Block 1 Boat Launch & the
Whiteshell Museum. Parking is about a 10 min (one way) walk from
the entrance. Take the Trans Canada Trail North until you find the
entrance to the trail and follow the trail. The trail has a carpet
of new growth and is not often used and is therefore not an obvious
trail, but it is there. Go against your "better judgment" &
what your GPS says is shorter and turn LEFT when you find the
trail. The trail goes in a loop (but one way has many fallen trees
on it) and at the top (by some rocks) you will have to leave the
trail (onto rock) No bush-whacking is required. (You should
never have to go through dense brush) The cache can be found
under/beside a tree and some brush.
The original cache started with:
- Mug
- Set of 8 tea light candles
- Travel kit (homemade)
- CHVN Sticker
- Set of 5 mini-votive candles
- Blue wedding bell
- Kool-aid cup
- Yoyo
- Bracelet
- Cube
- Wind chime
- Set of magnets.
Hope you enjoy our cache!

October 17, 2009 by pinch3 (95 found) Well, dry trails along rocky ridges are overrated, and my runners needed washing anyway. I don't know how much time we spent squelching through the swamp-- I thought the name of the cache indicted that that was inevitable. And not just wet but tangled-- Kildonan61 even had to get down on his hands and knees to get through one spot (luckily one of the less soggy ones). We enjoyed reading the log when we finally made it to the cache, so thank you to those who took the time to make a note of their adventures the low-tech way. And it was a relief to realise that we didn't have to do our "trail" in in reverse!

October 17, 2009 by kildonan61 (1212 found) Wow! What a hike! pinch3 and I must've bushwhacked and/or slogged through swampy stretches for all but the last few metres. That's the risk you take when you don't jot down cache descriptions and hints. Good thing I told pinch3 to bring a change of footwear - she needed it after this cache! After the find was finally made we were very fortunate to find the correct trail right away. Despite my worries and what I wrote in the logbook that we'd probably be bushwhacking again on the way out, we didn't have to bushwhack on the way out after all! Thanks for the adventure!

June 5, 2009 by Team Kare-a-cache (211 found) Going to start off by saying this was one of the hardest caches to get to that I have ever attempted. Don't get me wrong. It had been raining for the last 2 days and rained a few hours the night before which made things a little unpleasant, but if we could have just found the trail..... We were almost about to turn back when we did uncover a clearly marked trail. The trail did fork at one point and I believe we took the wrong fork. Many times we sunk into boggy and wet areas and if you don't have proper footwear, it isn't a good thing. At one point the bushwacking was so thick we thought we would never get out. Then we got to an area where there were some large rocks, and we knew we had to be on the right path. My wife insists it was my fault for getting lost as we didn't follow directions. I simply must go the most direct route no matter what, which simply isn't the case. We got to the cache area and even that took us some time to find. Once found, we had to get our wet and weary bodies back to the trail. Again, no luck in trying to find this trail. We finally made it to where we came in and made our slow bushwhacking trek back to the highway. All in all, the cache was awesome. Very well maintained! Very beautiful location, and well worth the effort to go looking for this one. The never ending wildlife on the way to this cache was simply amazing. Took nothing, left a flashing Canada flag pin.
