Neelix stomped down the corridor leading away from the shuttle bay. He was grumbling in an unusual language he reserved for those times when he didn’t want to be understood. “#$^@*^& Paris! Has no taste at all! &^$(&^$ Wouldn’t know a good design if he tripped over it!” Rounding a corner, he just missed running into Seven of Nine, who was striding purposely in the opposite direction.
“Neelix, do you ever watch where you’re going? We don’t need accidents right before shore leave; you know the caretakers of Planet DizKnee won’t host anyone with an injury- their lawyers don’t permit it.”
“Seven, I’m very sorry! I’m just upset because Paris asked me to design a new color scheme for the Delta Flyer. You know that Capt. Janeway will be flying it in the silly “Parade of Planets”, and it needs to be colorful. I came up with a great design, but he hated it!”
“Well, what colors did you choose?”
“Oh, it’s great! The base color is orange with purple pinstripes. The sensor arrays are all red, and the antenna assembly is brown. To top things off, I’ve added a broad purple racing stripe down the center. It really makes the ship look like it wants to go fast!”
“Neelix, those colors are hideous! Even the Borg would be offended by that color scheme. May I suggest that you rethink your design. You know the caretakers are fond of black. They also wear correctional lenses to make their eyes appear yellow.”
“Seven, please- if there’s one thing I know about these people, it’s what colors they like. After all, their flag is brown and red, or is it red and black? They change it every few years to keep it interesting. Besides, Paris wanted to paint it all black, even Janeway said no to that idea”
“That’s Captain Janeway to you, Mr Neelix!” she said as she walked up. “I’m tired of hearing everyone argue about this, so it stops here.”
“Yes, Captain” Neelix and Seven of Nine stammered together.
“If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. I want the Delta Flyer to have orange flames over metallic red, with green on the aft panels. Now get to it!”
With that, she stomped off, muttering something about how the Borg were easier to work with.
Seven of Nine and Neelix looked at each other and shook their heads. The captain was losing it again....
