This cache is in a reserve beside the river. It has areas of wetland and there are pukekos running around freely. Please be aware of the special nature of this area. DO NOT WADE THROUGH THE SWAMP. There are clear entrances at each end of the track along the river (Bower Ave and Baker St) and the walk in is very short. Please protect the environment.
The cache has been replaced on the 13th Juine 2020 and it is now a 300ml, brown/black painted round container. The container is attached to a nearby cabbage tree by a blue cord in case there is a king tide! When originally hidden it contained the “Freeville Flyer” – instructions are included asking geocachers to please move this “Flyer” from cache to cache so we can track the travels, and if possible return it to this cache by Friday October 10, 2003. As the “Flyer” is moved we would appreciate an email to: pupils at freeville dot school dot nz. By the middle of 2014 the "Flyer" was still in The Czech Republic, after spending most of its life in Europe. We are still waiting for it to be returned to NZ and eventually to Christchurch. There is room in the container for the logbook, pencils, sharpener and some trinkets. Any travel bugs feel free to visit! The cache is hidden on the river side of the track and you will only need to step off the track briefly to pick it up. At the cache site you will be well shielded from traffic on both sides of the reserve. However you will need to watch out for walkers using the track. CHECK THE TIDES BEFORE STARTING AND BE PREPARED TO GET MUDDY!
