Update. Update. Update.

There are now two caches at the top. One for winter and one for summer. This cache has been updated as of 15th July 2004.

On top of Ben Nevis at an altitude of 4406ft (1344mts)

The Main cache ( Cache 1 ) has it's co-ordinates above and is an ammo can. This has swaps and a log book.

The origional film canister ( Cache 2 ) is still there to be found, (just a sheet to log your visit), and has its own co-ordinates, N 56º47.801 W 005º00.208 this is easier to find when the snow is deep!!!

See my note below for 15th July 2004

This still only counts as one cache even if you find both containers.

This cache is on top of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain. Do not attempt this unless you are a reasonably competent walker and have at least 7 hours to get to the top and back. (don't be put off though, my wife managed and she has only climbed Helvelyn before) The conditions on the top are usually wintry, and misty at the best of times, even in summer (there were two sections of snow walking when I placed this cache at the end of May.) so take adequate clothing and footwear, food and drink, even if it is hot at the bottom! It is also advisable to be able to navigate with a compass in the mist at the top. Don't rely on following the signal from your gps as it will take you in a straight line to the cache, and may take you over the sheer drop first!! The path to the top is well defined and often full of walkers, but it is still a challenge. Keep away from the edges! The drop is sheer and miles down!!! Have fun climbing.

The number of people attempting this in the winter means I have raised the small cache container ( Cache 2 ) to a different location,to be above the snow level, I hope!

If you would like more clues, e-mail me before you go and I will give you my mobile number so I can direct you when you get to the top. I would hate it if you went all the way up there and couldn't find it!!!
