Multi-stage cache at the historic ship-lift in Magdeburg-Rothensee
The coordinates given on this page will lead you to the location of the historic ship-lift and the new ship-lock at Magdeburg Rothensee. These technical devices serve to connect a canal, the 'Mittellandkanal' with the river Elbe. From there it is a some 2 km long walk to the second stage of the cache, which is close to the final stage. After you have finished, you may have some food and drink at N 52° 13.657' E 011° 38.822' or enjoy a swim in one of the lakes in the area. N 52° 13.572' E 011° 39.317' is one of many good access points. Because of the vegetation and blood-sucking wildlife (no vampires though ;-), long trousers are preferable.

To find the cache, first explore the ship-lift.
There is a display with information on the ship-lift's construction. The year of the opening will provide you with the number 'A'. Number 'B' is the number of letters in the name painted on the sides of the ship-lift (on the bridge-like structure). Do not count the dash.
Then go to the ship-lock and climb up the tower.
Counting the stairs will give you number 'C'. You will need 'C' at stage 2 of the cache.
To get the coordinates for stage 2 calculate:
V=1951-A
w=689-B
x=A-1900
y=241+B
