30 minutes walk uphill; 30 Minuten Spaziergang bergauf
Fort Hermann is a fortress that was destroyed in World War I. An
impressive ruin with view over the soca-valley and the surrounding
mountains.
Parking lot is at N 46°21.732´ E 013°35.379´ (coming from Bovec
behind the bridge at the Kluze fortress). If you don´t know what
„deep“ means – look down the bridge. The way to
the upper fortress is well signed; just follow the yellow rings. In
the beginning there is a tunnel. A torch would not be bad, but is
not necessary. Further on the trail is winding uphill (not
dangerous, also o.k. for children).
On the way through the woods there is nearly no GPS-reception. Up
there at the fortress I took a good set of data (N 46°21.574´ E
013°35.293´) to get near the cache. The cache itself lies at the
backside of the fortress from outside in the wall (whereas the
reception there is quite bad).
We also recommend a visit in the Isonzo-museum at Kobarid. There
you get a lot of background information on the history and the
happenings in world war I in this area.

Bei Fort Hermann handelt es sich um eine Festung, die im 1.
Weltkrieg zerstört wurde. Eine beeindruckende Ruine mit Blick über
das Soca-Tal und die umliegende Bergwelt.
Parken kann man bei N 46°21.732´ E 013°35.379´ (von Bovec kommend
hinter der Brücke bei der Festung Kluze). Der Blick von der Brücke
in die Koritnicaschlucht definiert das Wort „tief“. Der
Weg zur oberen Festung ist ausgeschildert – immer den gelben
Kreisen folgen. Direkt am Anfang geht es durch einen Tunnel. Eine
Taschenlampe ist da sehr hilfreich, aber es geht auch ohne. Dann
zieht sich der Weg in Serpentinen nach oben (nicht gefährlich, auch
für Kinder o.k.).
Auf dem gesamten Weg gibt es so gut wie keinen GPS-Empfang. Oben an
der Festung haben wir noch einen „guten“ Punkt zum
Peilen genommen (N 46°21.574´ E 013°35.293´). Der Cache selbst
liegt auf der Hinterseite der Festung von außen in der Mauer (wobei
der Empfang dort wieder schlechter wird).
Wir empfehlen einen Besuch im Isonzo-Musem in Kobarid! Hier gibt es
jede Menge Hintergrundinformationen zur Geschichte und zu den
Geschehnissen im 1. Weltkrieg in dieser Gegend.
