Geocache Description:

Nestled in Little River State Park, this historic 4.5 mile hike includes climbing a couple of steep hills, crossing a few small streams, and all the while exploring ruins of a ghost town once inhabited by a pioneer community of the 1800’s.

This Cache is a multi-stage puzzle that is fun and easy, and will lead you to some historic locations. The state park requires a day-use fee of $2.50 per adult but it's well worth it.

***Be sure to print this out and take it with you, along with a pen or pencil. It was rainy and overcast when we planted this so we sent our friends "The Green Mountian Meaderers" to test this out before we posted it. They said the coordinates were a bit off but got the job done. The cache is in a plastic pretzel container and they found it after just a few minutes of hunting.

Park in the lot at the coordinates: N 44°23.593’ W 072°45.976’

Hike to the first location N 44°24.177’ W 072°46.391’ Note: at the “Y” in the path follow Hedgehog Hill Trail (right). Take time to explore any ruins you may see along the way.
When you reach the first location, you can find the answer to the question below, and solve the puzzle for the coordinates to the second location. (fill in the blank)

Who lived to be 100 years, 1 month, 9 days, and (?) hours? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Now that you have found the answer, add up the letters in each name using this pattern; a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4, etc.

The value of the first name = A
The value of the last name = B

Now that you know A and B you can solve for X and Y
X = A + 536
Y = B + 278

Second location is at N 44°24.X’ W 072°47.Y’

Now that you are at the second location, simply fill in the blanks below, and use the same coding as above to solve for both the location of the trailhead leading to the cache, and the location of the cache itself. Good Luck!

A good _ _ _ _ _ _, kind _ _ _ _ _ _, and _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ companion.

The value for the first missing word is = C
The value for the second missing word is = D

The trail head leading to the cache is at N 44°24.Z’ W 072°47.K’
The cache is at N 44°23.J’ W 072°47.L’

Z = C + 141
K = D + 419
J = C + 834
L = D + 621

After you find the cache, we suggest you back track to the trailhead location and take a right to loop back down to your car and pass some more cool history along the way.
