Geocache Description:

Follow Old Highway 80 and then drive a short distance north along the sandy surface of La Posta Truck Trail. Good parking spot at N32 44.362 W116 25.389. An easy final stroll along a level riding and hiking trail. Cache shares a secluded dry wash with a lovely grove of Live Oak trees. Altitude at the cache location is about 3520 feet. Summer temperature can be very warm but much of the walk is shaded.

Here’s a big ol’ howdy from the Sandy Creek Ranch Cowboys and their faithful steeds Shalla, Khirla, Happy, and Doc. Y’all come on out to th’ country and enjoy a short but easy stretch of washboard road and dry-wash trail. We placed this one so that any citified Geocacher can do it without breaking a sweat. In fact it is placed on a section of trail often ridden by the Sandy Creek Cowboys. You may see some interesting things along the dirt road and in the dry wash that leads to this cache. First of all La Posta Truck trail brings you right by the sixty-four acres of Sandy Creek Ranch. Yes, its a working ranch but not in a way that you might expect. With any luck you might see Shalla, Khirla, Happy, and Doc grazing at the ranch or, if you are an early-bird, see them standing in their corral at the stable. There may be a few horse apples and hoof prints along the wash left there by the ranch horses. On the return leg you will enjoy a fine view of the ranch, the high bridges of the freeway, and the big tracking antenna on the southern horizon. Yes, there's critters and varmits about. If you have a good eye for tracking you might be lucky enough to spot signs of deer, Mountain Lion, Bobcat, and two flavors of Coyote. By the way, watch out for the bull. The flowers of July include the blossoms of Chamise Bush, Sand Aster, Flat Top Buckwheat, Mountain Peone, and the last of the fabulous little pink bouquets of Parish’s Buckwheat. There’s also a lovely grove of Live Oak to stroll under while hunting the cache. We stuffed the cache with unusually good swag by local standards. You will find all sorts of things in the cache for adults, for children, and even for dogs. The ranch dawgs Bud, Spook, and Shadow actually larfed out loud to see the little doggie treats we once included. They even offered a couple of their seasoned gnawing bones but we didn’t think so. So y'all come and enjoy our efforts. Carpenter from Hell is quite proud of his special cache container so he will appreciate any and all compliments. Otherwise he gets all grumpy and gripes a lot. Really old cowboys, you know how they can be.
