This cache is dedicated to users of the classic, yellow, Garmin basic-model Etrex who don't download coordinates, but just make hand written lists and then enter the coordinates in one-by-one. I have made quite a few mistakes, including the first night we tried geocaching when I wrote down the wrong cords to the Shoreline Hole in the Wall cache, sending us on a wild goose chase down strange dirt roads a couple miles north of the cache. I also recently had to hike Magnetic Attraction two days in a row because I brought the wrong coordinates. That experience inspired this cache--I was in a remote spot on the wrong side of the mountain and thought "I ought to place a cache here."
This cache is also dedicated to bushwhacking. I love it even though I often hate it. (2014 addendum: I love it even less now...) I guess I just love the challenge of seeing a spot I want to reach, and then actually getting there despite the lack of trails. The final cache location is one of those places, where years ago a friend and I recklessly decided to reach a distinctive high point while skipping class.
Those first two paragraphs were written when I ambitiously placed this cache over a decade ago and in my first few months of geocaching. I hid "mini-whack" containers nearish to four other caches that had the codes. The maintenance was unrealistic. Now, to get the coordinates to the actual cache location, you must find one of my permanent mountaintop caches without a trail to the final. I will email the coordinates to this one after your find. There are three caches right now that qualify and have codes written on the lids.
The final cache has a rewarding view of two canyons after a difficult climb. It won't be a frequently visited location, so travel bugs probably aren't a good idea--they will just get stuck here.
