The straw that broke the cacher's back... Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

CTReviewer: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
CTReviewer

Geocache Description:

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION TO SAVE DISSAPPOINTMENT AND NOTE THE TERRAIN RATING

No, it's not in a cave, but you should be prepared as for one! (It's not in a tree either despite my rep..)

You NEED a flashlight AND a backup light source (flashlight/cyalume stick/etc., but NOT candles/flammables), comfortable footwear for wet conditions (and irregular surfaces), and drinking water would be good too (expect to exert yourself).

** NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN ** SEE LOCK COMBO BELOW **

I would NOT recommend attempting this cache after or during rain (when the streams are high). Otherwise it's winter-friendly, except NOT during snowmelt.

Another physically challenging cache, perhaps easier for smaller people, although my 6' frame has no problem (I've had practice walking crouched over) and my 76 year old dad came on a maintenance run. Take frequent breaks and please remember you have to return back the same way. (At each stage there are pleasant "seats"/rest stops.)

At the listed coordinates you'll find an obvious direction to go. Simply go up stream. (The intermediate stages/coords didn't last the years, and everyone overlooked them anyway.)

To give you a rough idea, from the start to the first "rest stop" is more than half-way to the cache. Then an eighth, a quarter, then the last eighth to the cache! I spent about two hours placing it (having already reconned but had fun with glow in the dark superballs for quite a bit...)

I actually played frisbee here during a campout at this park years ago--having slept in a tent where the pond is now.

At the "3rd stage" (not counting the start but rather 7/8ths of the way), look for the "soda straw" formation hanging down on your left--don't touch it (which'll prevent future growth) and please be careful not to bump/break it. Note what's happening directly underneath it as well. Normally these grow perfectly straight, but the air currents here have made it all irregular.

The final container is a LOCKED ammo box with a combination of "due south", IE: 1 8 0 Please remember to scramble the wheels when relocking!

Please post a note even if you don't attempt or get this one: a "what are you crazy?", "I only went a few feet" or "I made it half-way" is far more interesting than the ol' "Found it, TNLN, Thanks..." (I will encrypt mild spoilers and delete complete give-aways however--email me any juicy tidbits instead!)

Enjoy and have fun! --Randy

This cache is winter, dog and 'big' kid-friendly (no bikes).
