Geocache Description:

America's Cache is located in Silver Lake State Park. Admission is $4 per person when the park is open, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. You may enter the park to hike for free during the offseason.

The cache should be easy to find but involves climbing a moderate hill.

Cache History:
This cache was originally placed by Foxpaw / FreedomFinders on July 4, 2003. The original cache description clearly intended for this cache to be a multi-cache, but the cache was mis-listed as a traditional cache and the description included a number of significant errors. The errors were never fixed because the original hider stopped geocaching in August of 2003. Despite the difficulties, many finders successfully located the cache.

When the cache needed maintenance in April 2005, the solid-rock-seekers adopted the cache and attempted to fix the errors in the original cache description while maintaining the intent of the original hider. However, after doing so, it became obvious that nearly all past finders of this cache missed the opportunity to follow the multi-cache. As a result, two caches now exist to replace the original: this cache preserves the original hide location, and the revised multi-cache now exists as America's Cache II.

We hope that you enjoy both the original and the "new and improved" versions!

Cache Status and Tips:
As of May 11, 2005, America's Cache is once again ready to be found with a new container and all new trade items. The container is relatively small (about the size of a large sandwich box) so plan your trade items accordingly.

GPS reception at the cache site can be a little spotty, so you may need to search a little. However, please don't dismantle the rock wall looking for the cache container!

Also, after speaking with a park ranger, I learned that there is no problem with entering the park during the offseason as long as you don't go swimming.

Happy Caching!
