Geocache Description:

A 2 mile walk in Plessey Woods Country Park.

Ever since I started caching, I've intended to put a cache in Plessey Woods Country Park, being my local country park, but I've never had a good idea for how to do it. Until now, that is.

The co-ordinates will lead you to the centre which is a good place to start from. There's ample parking next to the centre. The cache makes use of the permanent orienteering course at Plessey Woods.

Each stage is a control of the O course. Each control is a wooden post in the ground with a white and red marker on it. Each marker has a number and a letter on it. The idea being that if one were orienteering, the number would tell you you were at the right control and you'd write down the letter to prove you'd been there.

From each control I send you to, you need the letter. Decode the letter by taking it's position in the alphabet and taking the units. In this way, M would decode to 3 as it's the 13th letter, and A would decode to 1 as it's the first. You get the idea.

Visit each of the following controls and collect the letter from each.
A N55 06.677 W1 37.612
B N55 06.476 W1 37.604
C N55 06.910 W1 37.781
D N55 06.833 W1 37.385
E N55 06.792 W1 37.325
F N55 06.696 W1 37.742

I strongly recommend that you visit them out of order, i.e. not ABCDEF as it's rather longer than it would be otherwise. It's about 2 miles by the shortest route, but it could be much further if you do it wrong.

The final cache is at:
N55 06.(A+2)BC W1 37.DEF
The final cache isn't in the immediate vicinity of any particular control, but it's closer to one of the controls I've sent you to than the others so it's helpful to end up at that one last. If too many people start ending up at totally the wrong one last, I'll start suggesting a route.
As a guide, it took me an hour to walk/jog/run round all the controls in Plessey Woods and find the marker and place a waypoint at each.

The cache itself is a small green ammo box with a number of things in it including the log book, pens and pencils, camera for taking photos of yourselves with. Please post the number of photos taken/remaining here as usual.

It's not far from the path so it shouldn't be too difficult to find. However, the tree canopy is currently quite thick so you'll have trouble getting a signal. The controls should be easy enough, but the final might be more difficult.

There are a great many things to do and see in Plessey Woods, including a number of sites of historical, archeological, geographic or ecological interest and a great number of things for the kids; I recommend you pick up some leaflet from the centre if it's open while you're there.
