Geocache Description:

Our first cache. Fairly simple to find as there are limited hiding places in the area.

The cache is on private property, but we own the place, so that's OK. It's not far from the road. It's a smaller ammo box with a few goodies:

  • A Macanudo cigar cutter
  • LCBO guide to classic beers booklet
  • Retractable telephone cord for a laptop
  • Home Depot carpenter's pencil
  • Extra pens for geocachers who forgot theirs
  • Extra ziplock in case of leakage.
  • Logbook, pen and transportation schedule

On a nice day, you can expect to see white-tail deer (the local population approaches 100), wild turkey (another 100 or so), any number of birds (swallows, heron, snipe) and garter snakes aplenty (there's a hibernation den within a stone's throw). We'll be back to add a travel bug later.

Seasonal Note: The ferry to Simcoe Island shuts down for the Winter. After freeze-up, anyone still wishing to log this cache will have to cross the ice on their own. There are a number of permanent residents on the island, so once you get across the road will be cleared. From the ferry dock to the cache, I imagine it would be a nice cross-country ski, but I haven't tried that yet.

Wildlife notes: Upon doing our annual cache maintebance visit, it's become apparent that a number of deer like the immediate surroundings as a bed. Watch out for "calling cards". :P
