Geocache Description:

A three mile (roundtrip) hike along the Boxborough glacial esker. This is the first cache placed in Boxborough.

The trail to this cache takes you through The Nature Conservancy Beaver Brook Preserve. The trail runs along the Boxborough glacial esker, a two and a half mile long high narrow ridge up to sixty-five feet above the surrounding landscape. This ridge was deposited by glacial action. You may notice some spots where hemlocks are growing on the northwest (shady) side of the esker, and mixed hardwoods are growing on the southeast (sunny) side of the esker with the ridge as a sharp boundary between the two. I have spotted wild turkeys and deer when I've been hiking or running along this trail. The cache container is a small container. It's been relocated twice since first hidden and is now located not far from the trail. Parking is at the end of Whitcomb Rd. at N 42° 29.705 W71° 32.398. The trailhead is at the very end of the road where you pass between two fences. Look for the Yellow and green diamond shaped trail marker on the fence.
