Located in the Odake Mountian Hut on the Hakkoda Mountain trail
Do not attmept this unless you have a trail map and are prepared for the elements and a great hike to the summit.
During winter months, this location is accessible on snowshoes, be prepared to stay the night in the hut. Make sure you bring plenty of kerosene with you for the prepostioned heaters. Bring a light source and backpacking stove--this is a primative shelter.
On the 23th of August, I lead a hike of 8 individuals on this trail begining on the ropeway. We estimated the winds between the Akakuradake and Odake summits to be gusting at 70 to 80 knots. We also had heavy driving rains. If I didn't know better, I would have sworn we were in the middle of a hurricane. Unfortunately I couldn't get any photos to post--too much rain for the digital.
Be very prepared if you attempt to locate this cache--This is not a beginner level find. DO NOT ATTEMPT this cache unless you are prepared to hike in dificult mountain trails with a trail map and adequate knowledge of these mountains. Suitable clothing is a must even during the summer months because these mountains will create their own weather and it can change without notice. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED.
