This cache was originally hidden by Team GeoDillo. It was adopted on 7/20/2024 by CenTex Preservation in an effort to preserve legacy caches from archival. Below is the original cache description.
The area of the Barton Creek Greenbelt where we hid this cache reminds us of some of the Mayan ruins we saw at the ancient city of Cobá in the Yucatan peninsula. Cobá is a recently discovered Mayan city so only a few of its estimated 6,500 structures have been uncovered. In many places throughout Cobá you can see stone "stair steps" structures partially covered with trees and vines. People who visit these ruins often feel as if they are the first archaeologists to discover the ruins.

This part of the Barton Creek Greenbelt is very reminiscent of some of the areas in Cobá where you can vaguely see some of the "stair stepped" structures emerging from the lush undergrowth of the jungle. You can easily reach this cache by following the trail along the southwest side of Barton Creek. Look for a trail that climbs up the edge of the ravine and starts near N30 15.460 W97 49.361. The cache is hidden in an ammo box just 30 feet off a trail with very little bushwhacking. There is also a nice view just off the trail and from the cache area.
The steep terrain in the area is not recommended for small children. While we have not seen any snakes at the cache site, please use caution as snakes are native to the whole greenbelt area. Recently there has been a harmless but large garden spider guarding the path to the cache. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it and try to cover traces of your visit.
