Geocache Description:

Debrecen is a great city in the eastern part of Hungary. Debrecen is called the Calvinist Rome. We invite you to a wonderful walk in the Great Forest, which is a beautiful parkland lying on a large territory.

It is a part of the real Great Forest. It has walking paths, play grounds and ponds. There are also hotels, restaurants and a zoo in the one-time wilderness.

The coordinates given in the 1st point below define the starting point of the walk. You will learn the exact place of the cache during the walk. We promise that it will not be too complicated. Well, the formula is simple, the cache can be found at N47° 33.ABC´, E21° 37.DEF´. You will learn the missing numbers at the following stops. In order to find the cache you should go to all the stops. It is worth it, you will see lots of beautiful things.

The cache is a 8×8 cm rubbermaid box. The password can be read on the logbook cover. You can hide something not bigger than 7×7 cm as a present in the box because there are a leaflet and a logbook in it.

The hiding place is a hollow in a tree at a height of about 1,6 meters. The tree offers two natural stairs to help you to reach the cache. The hollow of the tree is too deep therefore we prepared a nest from little twigs. Be careful with it otherwise the cache may fall into the bottom of the hollow of the tree.

1. The starting point. It is a Hungarian poet's statue in position N47° 33.077´, E21° 37.775´. He's called Lorinc Szabo. You should count the books on the stand, which is a part of the statue. You will get a two character number and it will be X. Remember it because you will need it later. See the other statue opposite, too. He is Endre Ady, another great Hungarian poet.

2. Tulip-tree. Here you can see a beautiful tree. It is a tulip-tree or liriodendron in position N47° 33.094´, E21° 37.725´. It is the most spectecular in April when it is blossoming. You will like it very much.

3. The renovated thermal bath. Through the windows in position N47° 33.123´, E21° 37.746´ you can see the pools and the bathing people.

4. Drinking fountain. If you are thirsty, here you can relieve your thirst. The fountain in position N47° 33.107´, E21° 37.660´doesn't work in winter.

5. The Froggy Pond (Bekas-to) N47° 33.122´, E21° 37.578. This pond is one of the two in the Great Forest. From 2003 water is not drained for the winter so it may be iced up and a lot of people may be sliding over it. In summer besides frogs you can see water lilies in the pond. Just walk across the bridge and count the beams. You will get a two character number. Put the two characters in D and E in the coordinates of the cache. Be careful when counting because at some places it is difficult to notice that the beams are separate. We have carved the number in the wooden fence in position N47° 33.122´, E21° 37.578 in case of snow.

6. Photo place. You can find some shelters with tables and benches in position N47° 33.163´, E21° 37.578´, from where we take a photo in every season. If you have your camera with you, please, take a photo of the pond and the surrounding area (arrange your snapshot so that both benches could be seen on the edges of the photo).

7. Rock-garden with a small waterfall and a tiny pond. Stand in position N 47° 33.195´, E 21° 37.663´ and climb to the top of the rock-garden along the bar and count the stairs. You will get a two character number. Add this number to X that you got at stop 1. This number will give you numbers A and B in the coordinates of the cache. I hope it is not too complicated :-)

8. Tricky tree. Don't give up there is not too much to come. Go to position N 47° 33.231´, E 21° 37.572´, there are a wonderful many-trunk tree and a junction of walking paths very close to each other. Your task is the following: count the trunks and the walking paths. Add the two numbers. This number will be F.

9. Old cache place. This is the position N 47° 33.238´, E 21° 37.534´ from where our previous cache was stolen between the 14th and the 21st October, 2003. You can find a number carved in the dead trunk, the hollow of which was the hiding place of our old cache. This number will be C.

10. The position of the cache. The position now is the following: subtract 38 from the latitude minute you have calculated (that is, form ABC) and add 43 to the longitute minute you have calculated (that is, to DEF).
You should find three similar-looking bushes consisting of 4 or 5 branches each on the top of a hill. The cache (23x13 cm) is hidden between them in a hole in the ground. We made the hole specifically for the cache and provided a lid with it. So just lift the lid and you will see the cache. Perhaps the yellow straw that we stuck next to the chache will help you. After logging, please, cover the cache with a lot
of dry leaves that are abundant in the place.

The last thing for you to do is find the new hiding place.

We wish you a pleasant walk and a successful hunt.

Please, let us know about your experiences. Our e-mail address is geodebrecen@c2.hu.
