in our disclaimer.
The cache is located about 2 km from downtown Kakabila. There were
trails to bring you close, but the jungle can quickly obliterate
them. The last 300 meters are extremely thick vegetation and a
machete should be used. You should also wear rubber boots
(Wellingtons). Hiring one of the local Miskitos as a guide might be
a good idea.
The hike will take you through former but now abandoned casava
fields and coconut, pineapple and cane plantations as well as the
jungle. July through December can be very rainy (It is a rain
forest after all.) Be carefull crossing log bridges. They can be
slippery. It is suggested that you cut a pole to give yourself a
bit of stability. The Miskito indians are trilingual, extremely
friendly, and will give you helpful safety tips. The cache is now a
white plastic jar and should be a truly easy-to-find cache. The
original cache may still be in the vicinity and can be logged for
credit also if found.
