A mother's tribute to her hero son.

This is a cache that I have wanted to do since I first learned of Geocaching.

The Soldier In The Field is something very special to me and many of the locals. If you want to read about it, check out (visit link) (you can click on the homepage link just below my name at the top left of the page)

I won't really say any more about it here, so you can be surprised if you want or you can read the web site. Your choice.

I will tell you this. The cache is located on a gravel road in southern Scotland county. The north/south gravel road that it is on is good, as are the roads that connect to blacktop to the north and east. IF IT HAS BEEN RAINING, DO NOT USE THE UNPAVED ROAD FROM THE SOUTHWEST. Take the blacktop and go around to the east or north if you have to. The road from the west is NOT GRAVEL, it is mud, and you will get stuck. This is a very rural area, and getting towed out of there will be both difficult and expensive. Seriously, avoid that road, come in from the north or east.

Enjoy, and be sure to check out the two other caches within 5 miles of The Soldier In The Field (one left by me, and one by Believer).

One more thing. Bring a small flag or some flowers if you can. When you get there (or read the web page) you will understand why.

JoA and I made the journey on April 17, 2004 and this remains one of the most memorable caches that we have been to. Truly inspiring. Thanks a million for taking the time to bring us here and take care of the cache.

I love this cache. I have been a native northeast Missourian all my life and did not know about this site till I found it. In today's world turmoil, it holds a special place for me b/c I am also an only child, like the deceased, and it makes me realize the meaning of loss even if the cause seems good.
