Soldier In The Field Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Mongo: As there has been no response from the owner since the notice was sent out, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the near future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

A mother's tribute to her hero son.

NOTE: This was recently relocated, but that's actually good news for our Soldier. The memorial has been restored by local artisans and will soon (as of this writing) be moved into town to the Downing House Museum where it can be properly protected and admired.

I will update the location when I have the new one mapped out. At this point in time, it will require permission of the property owner to place a new cache there, so for the moment it is suspended. Thanks!

This is a cache that I have wanted to do since I first learned of Geocaching.

The Soldier In The Field is something very special to me and many of the locals. If you want to read about it, check out (visit link) (you can click on the homepage link just below my name at the top left of the page)

I won't really say any more about it here, so you can be surprised if you want or you can read the web site. Your choice.

I will tell you this. The cache is located on a gravel road in southern Scotland county. The north/south gravel road that it is on is good, as are the roads that connect to blacktop to the north and east. IF IT HAS BEEN RAINING, DO NOT USE THE UNPAVED ROAD FROM THE SOUTHWEST. Take the blacktop and go around to the east or north if you have to. The road from the west is NOT GRAVEL, it is mud, and you will get stuck. This is a very rural area, and getting towed out of there will be both difficult and expensive. Seriously, avoid that road, come in from the north or east.

One more thing. Bring a small flag or some flowers if you can. When you get there (or read the web page) you will understand why.

NOTE: This cache tends to go missing several times a year, I suspect some local kids have discovered it and take it. If the cache is NOT there, please still log your cache as a successful visit... it's all about visiting the soldier, not finding the box. Thank You.
