Geocache Description:

This is a rather difficult puzzle cache. You will need to triple check your calculations and verify your location before you attempt to find the cache, otherwise, you may need REGZ help. The cache is a 1 Gallon Plastic container in some unique camouflage.

The Story of REGZ FAN.

Long ago in a not so distant as distinct place called DACEFEB lived a man named Reg. Now, or rather then, Reg had become well FED on his ability to know where lines were drawn. This was a problem for the people of DACEFEB because they had only one point, the manufacturing of cheap, plastic combs. When a dispute over any line came up, Reg was the one to solve it.

One Day, old lady FABEC was upset because a black cat had crossed her line of site. She hrmmmphed and stomped and made loud sounds that scared the BAD cat and most of her neighbors run in terror. Constable FECC announced that he would call in Reg to solve this crisis. Alarms rang and Bells clanged but it wasn't until dark that Reg was signalled using the special beacon displaying an (R:) in the sky.

The next morning, Reg, armed with his trusty pencil rode in on his trusty mule to solve the case. Reg approached Ms. FABEC, still standing where she had seen the cat cross her path, and asked, "Which way, Ms. FABEC, were you walking when you saw this cat?"

Ms. FABEC responded, "I don't recall, but I didn't want to cross that cat's path."

"Where was the cat, then Ms. FABEC?" asked Reg, his compassion evident in his voice.

"Over by the water barrel, I think," said the elderly lady.

Reg then took his pencil and drew a line in the dirt from Ms. FABEC to a mailbox across the road, well away from the water barrel. "If you walk on this line, you will avoid the black cat's trail," Reg declared.

The town rejoiced as Reg guided Ms. FABEC to safety along the line in the road. Reg had acquired a brand new fan.

Once again, I'll give you some code to decrypt. This time, the cyper text is the story above. The title is not included. Start after the bold title. Punctuation and spaces are not included. There will be four "decryptions" you will need to do including the Cypher. I decided that this probably needs at least a couple method hints. You are going to do something differant with the cyphertext this time. As a hint G5 = 32. Once you figure out how that works you'll be on your way. Don't be suprised if it takes a while to get that far.

*(Code)*
E4 G5 B8 Q5 O1 G5 P4 G5 Y5 Y6 S2
N12 G5 O1 S1 Y5 S2 G5 P4 G5 S2 Y7
*(Code)*

The encryption schemes used:

  • Cyphertext (If you've done The Hex, you've done something similar to this.)
  • ASCII Character/ASCII value translation
  • Hexadecimal/Decimal conversion (Once again, having done The Hex will come in handy.)
  • ROT13 encryption

As with all of my Hexed Caches, the clue is intended to help you decide if you have solved the puzzle. The landing zone should be within two miles of the posted coordinates. If the two don't line up, you're not on the right track.

Good luck. For discussion of this or any caches, I am happy to answer question by email and I am sure that the COG Forums will be an active place for talking about this cache.
