Not carrot on stick, but ___ ___ on pole! Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

qos: Finally the day has come. There IS fencing around the whole park. The cache is not accessible anymore, only the beginning of the treck through the park. I'm glad so many people enjoyed the cache and the park as well as the hunt for clues about Mr. Gibson, the surveyor, the tools of his trade--the links and chains, his cows etc. What will they do with the poem chiselled in stone? I wonder....

Geocache Description:

You may go to this cache by subway. (North York City Centre) There is seating available all over in this urban park, especially for those with difficulty walking! If you use a wheelchair, wheel to the co-ordinates via the sidewalks or park at the public parking in the block west of Yonge at the historic building, south of McDonalds. Then wheel to the co-ordinates through the gate! This cache is esoteric for very young cachers, but they can enjoy the walk and the "funny" sculptures.

N. B. This park will not be a park at some time, as it is slated to be developed as far as I know.

When I first saw this place, I thought it was not only whimsical, but kitschy. How wrong I was! There is method in all the madness. Many ideas combine for a whole system.

First go to the GPS co-ordinates. There is a pole near a big boulder that has Latitude, Longitude, Northing and Easting co-ordinates chiselled on top.
You will be at:
"Conc 1W LOT 18, County of York, Canada West".

What is on top of the pole and what colour is it? It's a _____ _____!

Then, follow the yellow stone road (the path) to a "post" with the same thing on top, well--it's only a different colour, a really different size, a different shape and almost hollow. Find the matching "post" and look around there in the greenery for the cache.

Please write in the log book and return the cache to it's hiding spot.

Extra questions for you to ponder:

a) What are the numbers for Latitude, Longitude, Northing and Easting on the boulder? Explain your theory about how and why the GPS numbers and the boulder numbers differ! (xxx-snow)

b) Where is this motto, that is quite suitable for geocachers?

We shall not cease from exploration
and the end of all our exploring
will be to arrive where we started
and know the place for the first time.
"Little Gidding" Four Quartets - T.S. Eliot

c) What are the 2 names of this place?
____ ____ and ____ ____.
(One found on the West Side and one on the East Side --
One name has nothing to do with the cache theme!)

d) What David ____ is honoured here and what was his profession?

e) In what year was he born and in which one did he die?

f) What were the 2 math equivalent formulas needed in his profession?
100___=1____
1____= 66 ____

g) What related 10 things that go together hang on the pole that make a set?

h) What was the area of his big spread? (xxx - snow)

i) What strategic game for 2 can you play there?

j) Find lots of directional markers in the stone pathways. Where are they? How far apart? How do the shapes relate to the numbers on the markers? (xxx - snow)

I found:
2x(3 of the 10 markers)
2x(3 of the 20 markers)
2x(3 of the 30 markers)
2x(3 of the 40 markers)
2x(3 of the 50 markers)

k) What are the names of 7 animals/cows in a stone alcove pathway? (xxx - snow)

l) When was this place dedicated by Mel L.? (East side)

m) What sculptures did you see? Did you find them funny and/or odd?

n) What other interesting things did you notice that we should know about?

o) Now--why do you think this cache has the name it has. Indeed, why were the items like the one on the pole important for David ____?

p) What ancient famous person is named on a boulder? (xxx - snow)

Have fun!
