Geocache Description:

You will need to bring a water container in order to complete this cache. You will also want to park as close to S45.03.255 E169.10.359 as you can in order to simply completion of the cache.

Pre-dating the movie, Private Ryan (yes, that's his real name and rank) is Mrs Moneydorks Great-Grandfather, who served with the ANZACs in the first world war.
Private Ryan is buried in Cromwell Cemetery, a hot and dry dust bowl in Central Otago and his grave site is the cache location.

Four years after his death, Private Ryan's wife was buried in the same plot and at that time a rose was planted on the plot as a memorial to them both.

Many years have past and those who cared for the rose have moved away from the region and have aged to a point where they can no-longer care for it. Several generations down the family tree (born after Private Ryan's passing) it is now our job to tend the rose, some 500km away from where we live. It gets pruned every couple of years and watered about as often, which is where the concept for the cache came from. (as stated above, the rose is in a hot, dry dust bowl).

To log this cache you must fill up a water container using the tap located at S45.03.255 E169.10.359 (where I've suggested you park) and water the rose at Private Ryan's grave. By saving the rose you are effectively "saving Private Ryan". (I'll continue to visit occasionally in order to prune the rose).

To confirm completion of the cache, you must Email the answers to the following questions (from Private Ryan's headstone). Please do not log them on the cache site.

1. What regiment did Private Ryan serve with?
2. What was Private Ryan's wifes name?
3. In what year was the rose planted (ie: When did Private Ryan's wife die)?

I wasn't sure about listing this cache, but after discussing it with several cachers, I've had nothing but unanomous support for the concept.

Please post pictures of the Rose in bloom with your cache logs if you can, I'll Email them to those that have cared for it in the past, who are now too old to travel to the site.
