The Illinois State Fair is legendary to Springfield and the State
of Illinois. It has provided many memories to the hundreds of
thousands of visitors each year. Roaming through the beauty of the
fairgrounds and experiencing the historic essence, visitors will
make their own history at the Illinois State Fair.
The Fair has had its home in Springfield for over 100 years.
Many buildings on the fairgrounds have also celebrated over 100
years of history in Springfield.
The fairgrounds is the home of the world’s fastest dirt
track, more than 150 buildings, a grandstand, four indoor arenas, a
covered outdoor arena, and over 1,000 stalls for livestock or
horses. The Illinois State Fairgrounds encompasses over 360 acres
of land that is fully fenced for added security. The landscaping
and scenery throughout the grounds provides one with a sense of
hospitality.
Horses are a favorite attraction here anytime during the year,
whether at fair time or one of the many weekends throughout the
year when equestrian events are hosted. Stroll around and step
lightly for evidence of horses may be found near this cache. Cache
is a mini containing only log and pencil and is well hidden near
where many horses have visited.
The fairgrounds is located 2 miles from Interstate I-55's
Sangamon Ave exit (exit 100 B).
