The ROUTE 66 is reached by traveling east along Route 66 from Albuquerque and turning off into the Monticello Subdivision. You will end up parking at an Open Space parking area that requires no fee. Enjoy the nice hike on a gradual incline into a small valley.
Its not far from the parking lot but does get a little steep at the end.
Can you actually see Route 66, the Mother Road, the Main Street of America? Absolutely. This Cache is dedicated to perserving the memory of that highway and and all the other historic highways of America.
The items in the cache include cars, RT66 postcards and for that very special Gung Ho first person- a RT 66 Teeshirt.
A good short hike for those that enjoy the easier hiking. This cache gets you high enough to look back south toward Route 66, I-40 and across into the Cibola National Forest.
