This is the FOUResterBoys (ages 4, 6, 10, and 12) first placed cache. They picked the original contents and the location.
There are several ways to approach this cache.
- Speedcachers will want to park at the cul-de-sac at the end of Overlook Dr. (N 42.46.435, W 071.38.985) and follow the skidder trail NE. This entrance is probably the most suited for small children as well.
- Hikers can enter from the West at either of two trailheads near Melendy Pond (N 41.46.717, W 071.39.612, or N 42.47.106, W 071.39.305). These involve some uphill climbing (approx. 300' elevation change, 3/4 mile), but the trails are easily traveled.
- Alternatively, hikers can approach from the East at the communication tower at the peak of Birch Hill (N 42.46.413, W 071.38.171). This trail is more level than the others, but can get a little "damp" in the spring, not to mention you need to find a way to the tower (an access road from Haydens Rd. can be walked or biked up, but not driven).
All of these approaches meet at an intersection at N 42.46.539, W 071.38.819.
The cache is a tupperware container with a blue lid and a large official geocaching.com sticker. Its original contents include:
- Toy animals, matchbox cars, Harry Potter action figure, a couple of tops.
- Parent's Travel Bug, Turtle Tracks travel tag.
- Disposable camera (please use and leave in the cache -- email me if you take the last shot).
- Log book and finder's sheet.
