Geocache Description:

This is a multi with two hidden cache boxes. It is located in the Greenough Land of Carlisle. The first cache box is a traditional named The Short Of it. It's a quick walk into the woods and offers a nice view nearby. The second cache box is a multi named The Long Of It. It is located after finding the first cache box and three information rings.

I found these woods while taking some winter hikes with my son Jonathan . He found a spot one day and insisted we hide a "treasure" here. Because of the nice view nearby I agreed. However, we enjoyed this hike so much that I wanted to make the hunt a little longer. Unwilling to let go of his first hiding spot we agreed on two cache boxes. This created The Short And The Long Of it .

You may log two finds for this cache. One for The Short Of It and one for The Long Of It.

To begin this cache park in the small lot located at N 42 31.883 W 71 19.065. There is a small , easy to miss, brown sign at the entrance of this lot.

Walk a short distance up the street and enter the trail at N 42 32.024 W 71 19.092 It is directly across from the Blueberry trail.

Follow this trail to the cache page coordinates.
The cache box is a tupperware container. Inside is a log book , pen and treasures to exchange. On the inside lid cover will be the coordinates needed to find the first ring for The Long Of It. Please replace cache container as found.

To continue on to The Long Of It - After the first cache box you will need to find three pvc strips cut in to one inch strips. Each strip is located on a tree, eye level, 70 feet or less from the trail. The final cache box is a tupperware container. It also has a log book, pen and treasures to exchange. Please replace the container as found.

This is a loop trail with 3/4 in the woods. After finding the second cache box, following the trail straight [no left turn trails] will lead back to street . It's a short walk back to the parking lot and traffic is usually light.

We hiked this trail during winter. I am not sure how dry passage is in spring and early summer. Watch out for poison ivy. Bug spray is advised.

I rated this a two because my GPS was going haywire on the rings.

Happy Caching!

About the woods - Trails circle the Greenough pond and lead to the Concord river. Walking clockwise around the pond, the trail crosses a footbridge and passes a barn with a beautiful slate roof. After the pond, the trail splits, with one branch leading to the wetlands and the Concord river, while the other trail heads south, passing through a hayfield and a grove of white and red pine trees. The trail toward the river meets up with the River Trail and heads south to Foss farm. The trail through the hayfield meets the Inland Great Meadows trail, which continues on to Foss Farm.
