Cedar Island is a small island in Lake Ontario just off the
shore of Kingston. It lies at the junction of the Saint Lawrence
River and the Rideau Canal Waterway and is a popular stop-over spot
for boaters, featuring a few small campsites and several picnic
tables. The most impressive structure on the island is Cathcart
tower, built in 1847 to defend against possible invasion from the
south.

towers at

We (Hoover and Root) found this cache by accident one day while
exploring Cedar Island, even though it wasn't listed on the
geocaching web site. It was such a nice surprise that we decided to
post the coordinates so everybody else could enjoy it too. We'll
stop by and check on the cache every once in a while to make sure
everything is okay. If you happen to run into the people who
originally placed this cache, make sure to thank them from all of
us!
In the winter, if you are very brave, you may be tempted to walk
across the ice to get to this cache. PLEASE USE EXTREME
CAUTION!!! Remember, if you can see any open water it
means the ice is thin and may not support your weight. Do not risk
your life to find this cache! Also note that the mainland closest
to Cedar Island is private property and you will be trespassing
unless you cross from the north side of Deadman Bay. And finally,
the winter route of the Wolfe Island ferry passes close to the
western tip of Cedar Island. Use your common sense and don't go
anywhere near there.
