Take a stroll in the woods, bring a pencil and think outside the
box. (Not best for a first-time hunt.)
Little micro in the wood,
quiet place to search real good;
it can see you walking by,
if you wander nigh.
---> DO NOT read logs if you don't want to spoil part of the
hunt.
Best parking
Enjoyable round trip (a little over a mile total) from N37º
03.473 W76º 28.950, small parking area at intersection of
Warwick Blvd (Rt 60) and Gatewood Rd. Sneaky Maury has other sneaky
ways in; this is the trailhead.
Signs
Current regulations are on little green metal signs nailed to
trees, designating area "open for recreation from sunrise to
sunset" and bikes and horses restricted from certain areas. If you
enter from other places (RRMC, Harpersville, Deer, WC) you'll
probably see less-friendly signs that are outdated. Many dogs loves
this place, but carry a leash and watch for glass.
Hazards
A farmer has a beehive 500ft east of cache, outside the fence; no
bees seen near cache. Wait-a-minute vines if you bushwhack in.
Muddy patches can linger; they graveled one part of the main path,
but near the water it can get deep and sticky. Go Carts sometimes
blast through the back. Mountain bikers use the trails.
CITO
Sometimes a good place to gather cans to recycle, about half way in
if you use listed parking, plus the water brings things of its own:
a life jacket, a soccer ball...
