Geocache Description:

The Emu Mob's second cache is part of the Vic Cache Rush Game. It will test your cryptographic skills as well as your cache finding skills.

Note:

The posted coordinates are bogus—don't go there!
However, the first waypoint is close by.
During World War II Germany developed what came to be known as The Enigma Machine to encrypt messages, and so keep them secret from the Allies. The machine was based on a system of three rotors that substituted cyphertext letters for plaintext letters. To find the coordinates for the various stages of this cache, you'll use a simplified version of The Enigma Machine to decrypt the clues. If you want to read a short, easy-to-understand article about The Enigma Machine, click here. If you want to play with a computer-based simulation of The Enigma Machine, click here. You do not need to visit these sites to complete this mission.
Your mission is to retrieve a small container of contraband before the German spies get to it. You won't need a real Enigma Machine to complete your mission. The French Underground has interrogated a prisoner of war and found that the Germans are now using a Simplified Enigma Machine (SEM) in which the starting position for rotors one and three is fixed. The prisoner also gave them the starting position of the second rotor that is in use for general transmissions in this region. The French put this information, and instructions about how to use the SEM into a pdf document that you can access from this location. The Underground also intercepted three transmissions that give instructions, for finding three camouflaged containers. Read the instructions in the pdf document, and use them to decrypt the three transmissions.

The first transmission is in code under the heading of Transmission One below, and can be decrypted with the key in the pdf document. Use the resulting coordinates to locate a small, camouflaged container. The container has in it a key for the second rotor of the SEM that decrypts the second transmission. It also contains the latitude of the container of contraband. Take one of the keys and use it to decrypt the second transmission.

The second transmission is in code under the heading of Transmission Two below, and includes the coordinates for finding another small container. Decrypt this transmission with the LATITUDE key. This second camouflaged container has in it a key for the second rotor of the SEM that decrypts the third transmission. It also contains the longitude of the container of contraband. Take one of these keys also.

The third transmission is in code under the heading of Transmission Three below, and includes some hints for finding the container of contraband. Decrypt this transmission with the LONGITUDE key. Note: you don't have to decrypt this transmission to find the container, but it may help you to find it.

Remember: you are dealing with spies, and they are in the dirty tricks business! If you are captured in the pursuit of this mission, the Geocaching Community will disavow any knowledge of your actions. Good luck!
