In June of 1631 the scottish daughter of a local grist mill operator was finding her way home from what is now called Cape Pond when she was "set upon by many pirates".Upon hearing an alarm being raised a few of the local men came running to her defense only to find seven pirates armed with pistols and cutlass, either dead or suffering from mortal wounds.
The millers daughter was shaken, and her clothes stained with blood but she was untouched and otherwise unharmed. She was clutching her grandfathers scottish battle sword with both hands, and was ready to take of blood of any other attacker.
She later married and live near here until her death in 1702.
The pirate bodies were buried on this site, and then rocks heaped on them to build the stone fence junction right at the road.
She and her daughter became the first school teachers on Cape Ann at a school just a few hundred yards away. Both ladies were expert shots with both rifle and pistol, and both were lethal with other weapons including their hands.
