Geocache Description:

This is on Woodlands Road, Opotiki. Follow Woodlands Road to the entrance of Hukutaia domain.

This domain has been in existence since the 1930's thanks to Mr Norman Potts, who was a local lawyer and amateur botanist who died in 1970.

This domain does have a very narrow entrance. Also the tracks are very slippery when it is wet.

There is a lot of history in this domain and there has been a huge effort on his behalf and those of the people that has followed in his footsteps.

This is a huge asset to New Zealander's of all ages that would like to learn about native flora. Everything is labelled with it's botanical name, place of origin and common Maori name (if it is known) on plastic stakes that are easy to read. This includes the huge burial tree " Taketakerua ", which has a girth of 22 metres, a height exceeding 23 metres and is rather old.

The cache is a 2 litre plastic container coloured green, with the usual trading goodies.
