Geocache Description:

This is a physical cache on one of the vista mountains in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal. It is located at a height of around 5360m / 17580ft above sea level!

You will have to have time on your side to get to this cache, you will have to spend at the very least 9 days from the airstrip in Lukla to Gokyo Ri and back! The chances to get AMS (acute mountain sickness) is high in this height and is increasing if you try to speed up! Every extra day will increase the chances of reaching the summit and returning healthy! There is plenty to see and to do, so you can easily spend extra days, like for a side trip to the Tengboche monastery

Recommended fastest intinerary:

Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and begin your trek by walking to Phakding.
The domestic flight will take around 40 minutes, be sure to sit on the left hand side of the plane to get a gorgeous view on the mountains. After the plane came to an halt on the ridiculous 13% steep and only 450m long air strip you climb out of the 19seater and get your bags.
The path to the north passes Lukla and drops steeply for a while before continuing more level. You are crossing a few side streams of the Dudh Kosi river on more or less exciting bridges and pass through the villages of Chablung, Tharo Kosi and Ghat before reaching Phakding at the banks of the river.
This is a good place to stop for the night, you'll find a number of lodges there.
If you are still fresh, yo could also continue up to Monjo further up the Dudh Kosi. This would make the next day shorter on which you will climb to Namche Bazaar.

Day 2: From Phakding to Monjo, climb up to Namche Bazaar.
The Dudh Kosi will be first passed in Phakding on a suspension bridge. Continue on the western bank for some time before crossing the river again. The path passes some villages interspersed with rhododendron forests and a magnificent view on the Thamserku (6608m).
After passing Monjo you will soon reach the Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) National Park where you will have to register and pay you fee of 1000Rs.
After the National Park entrance you will once more cross the river before you reach the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and the Bhote Kosi, here you will cross the last suspension bridge before the hard part begins.
The trail now climbs to Namche Bazaar at 3420m. Climb slowly to minimize the chances of getting AMS!
You will past one vista point where you can see the peaks of Nuptse and Mt. Everest - weather permitting!
Continue your climb and reach finally Namche Bazaar.
Reward yourself with a yak steak and/or a piece of chocolate cake in the German bakery of Hermann Helmer!

Day 3: Acclimatisation day
You really should take this day to get used to the height! You can climb up to the National Park museum from where you will have nice views to Everest and Ama Dablam and to the Everest View Hotel built by the Japanese.
You could also walk to the west to visit the Lauda Gompa monastery. On both trips you will reach around 4000m height

Day 4: Namche Bazaar to Khumjung
This is a short day but you will have to climb a bit. You should not go further. You could take a side trip to the Hillary Hospital in Khunde

Day 5: Khumjung to Machermo
Another long day! Walk through the forest passing Phortse Thanga before climbing starts again. After leaving the forest you will reach the village of Dole. The path makes another short but steep climb before it is more or less level, passing Lhabarma and Luza. Ahead you can see the peak of Cho Oyu, to your right across the deep valley there is another path and some yak farms. Towering above the peaks of several 6000m peaks like Cholatse and Taboche.
After you found a lodge in Machermo, you can climb up the ridge above the village if the weather is fine for a beautiful panorama!

Day 6: Machermo to Gokyo
The climb to the ridge is steep but takes only some minutes, after that the path is mainly level while you past the pastures of the yak farm at Pangka. Soon the path climbs up a more or less natural staircase before reaching the first lake.
Continue north passing the second lake on a level path and head towards the third lake, where you will reach the village of Gokyo (4750m).
To the north east you can see the Gokyo Ri - from here it does not look too demanding. To the east there is a ridge from where you have spectacular views down the glacier and towards Cho Oyu.
If the weather is fine and you are still fit, you can try the summit of Gokyo Ri and the cache on this afternoon.

Day 7: Gokyo Ri and back to Machermo
Get up early if you want to watch the sun rising behind Mt. Everest.
It will take around two hours from your lodge to the summit of Gokyo Ri - always remember, climb slowly!
After zillions of zigzags and switchbacks you finally reach the prayer flags that indicate that you made it to the summit! Congratulations!
Before searching for the cache, you should calm down and get some breath. While you do so, enjoy the panorama! From here you see four 8000+m high mountains (Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu) and the highest mountain below 8000m (Gyachung Kung 7922m).

THE CACHE:
Now you have probably already went to the north on the summit plateau to get better views, notice the large boulder lying in your way? Take a closer look and you will find a small tupper style box hidden below it.
The cache contains cache note, log book and pencil (I forgot a sharpener, perhaps someone could bring one along?), to be left in the cache.
For swapping you'll find a few Geocaching Germany stickers and the Capper Bug TB.

On your way down, breathing becomes easier with every step! You can have a rest in Gokyo with a tea and some chocolate before continuing to Machermo. This will now take merely two hours from Gokyo.

Day 8: Machermo to Namche Bazaar:
This will be a hard and long day, retrace your steps but don't climb up to Khumgjung at but follow the trail to Namche at the area of Sanasa.
When reaching Namche, your feet will probably be sore so have a hot shower and a beer :-)

Day 9: Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Another long day! First you are descending to the river, all the meters you had climbed are lost again!
When reaching Lukla get to your airline office and try to get a flight to Kathmandu the next day. Good luck ;-)

Note on cache maintenance: I have asked one of my friends in this region - he is a mountain guide in the tourist season in the Solu Khumbu and reaches Gokyo Ri every six week (on an average) to take care of the cache. His name is Gautam Tenzing Sherpa and can be reached via e-mail, so there will be someone looking and caring for this cache and be able to maintain it. Should there be anything wrong, he will remove it if I ask him to do so.
