Der Sandstein hat über Jahrhunderte die Wirtschaft der Umgebung mitgeprägt. Das Bruchgebiet zwischen Wehlen und Rathen wurde bereits 1388 in den Rechnungen des Dresdner Brückenbaumeisters erwähnt. 1877 erfolgte hier eine große Stromverschüttung der Elbe. Aber bereits vor dem ersten Weltkrieg wurde die Produktion in den Weißen Brüchen eingestellt.
Die nächstgelegene Parkmöglichkeit ist der Elbeparkplatz in Stadt Wehlen.
Ausgangspunkt ist ein Grenzmal mit den Koordinaten N 50° 57,595’ und E 014° 02,570’. Man findet zwei Jahreszahlen von Grenzziehungen. Die älteste Jahreszahl ist ABCD.
