Geocache Description:

In 1868, the Guilford Mineral Springs Company was incorporated, and started operation on this property. Mineral water from the springs on this 200 year-old farm was believed to have medicinal qualities. The large structures on your left just before the brick schoolhouse were used to house guests as they came to spend time and be “treated” for various ailments. It has been suggested by some that the stay in the fresh Vermont air and walking the many maintained walking paths had as much healing power as did the water. As part of the enterprise, water was also bottled and sent to the Boston and New York regions to offer treatment in those areas. As you enter this area on your cache quest, try to imagine the various 19th century costumes which must have graced these paths in their search for better health. It is also fun to think that the Guilford Mineral Springs are still keeping people like yourselves healthy and active. This property, now known as the Andrew G. Weeks Memorial Forest, was donated several years ago to the New England Forestry Foundation (www.newenglandforestry.org), and the Vermont Land Trust was given easement rights. Both of these organizations are eager to have people enjoy the lovely and historic property.
