Fathers and Sons Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mr. Ollivander: Hi,

Since this cache appears to be listed on private property with permission revoked and there appears to be no resolution forthcoming, I need to archive this listing. If you are able to resolve permission issues quickly, I may be able to unarchive the listing. If not, you are welcome to place a new cache in the area once you have resolved permission.

I am sorry this has not worked out as planned.

Regards,
Mr. Ollivander

Geocache Description:

This is my first cache and will probably be the most memorable. Fathers and sons cache was conceived from the many trips made here over the years by my family. Whenever we come to Potter County to go hunting of fishing, we seem to always end up taking a ride up to the “lookout”. Our camp has been located in Wharton for over 60 years now, so that’s a lot of rides.

The .14 mile walk to the cache is an easy one. You can expect a change of roughly 200 feet in elevation from the parking area to the cache. The container is a white one gallon bucket; original contents include a camo hat, a new travel mug, an American flag, glowing yo-yo, nail game, a wheresgeorge, and some other stuff.

If someone is ambitious, you can take a few cans of spray paint, and camo the bucket before fall.

The roads are not maintained in the winter, so a 4 wheel drive, snowmobile, dirt bike, ATV, etc, would be ideal. But, I was able to easily drive to the cache in the spring months in my car. I gave this cache a fairly difficult rating based on the directions up to the lookout. Unless you are familiar with back roads travel, I suggest good topo maps or topo software to navigate these back roads; we don’t want anyone spending the night on the mountain! As always, be careful in the hunting seasons.

Directions:
Take route 872 (Wharton rd) to Elk lick road at waypoint N41 31.322 W078 01.580
- ***Unless stated below, just keep following the road straight.
Follow the Elk lick blacktop road until you get to the gas town at the top of the hill.
You will bear onto a dirt road at waypoint N41 30.820 W077 59.273
- As you follow the road, you will bear to the right around a huge radio tower (you can’t miss it.)
- Continue to follow the road until you get to waypoint N41 30.377 W077 59.542 turn to the right.
- You should arrive at a 4 way intersection after passing a few camps in an open area. Turn left at this intersection N41 30.147 W078 00.162
- Keep going until you need to bear right at N41 29.790 W078 00.576
- Now for the final turn… When you are about .33 miles away from the scenic area, you will need to bear right at the “Y” intersection. If you go left you will end up at a dead end very quickly

A cacher named Ima Lost will be helping me maintain this cache.
