Birdwatchers and now geocachers will have an opportunity to explore
Cape Perce.
The cache is located on a very popular bird watching Trail. It is
noted for the Kittiwake and Guillemot colonies, but there are
numerous of other birds spotted on this cape. And there are lots of
seals and a fox or two to be seen while hiking along the coast. I
recommend parking closer to the main road
(N46°10.650',W59°50.671'), unless you drive an SUV. Any further in
the old road could lead to some damage to your car. You will find
the cache located just off the trail, not far from where there is a
colony of Kittiwakes. Take care if you are walking close to the
cliff edges as it is constantly eroding and may not be safe. The
trail has a few wet spots and is notably colder when there is a
wind blowing! We set out on a very windy day, and brrrrrrr it was a
cold hike in and out! It is approximately a 4 km return hike, but
fairly easy hiking on a nice wide trail. You can either hike along
the coast or hike along the old Donkin Mine road. We like the
Donkin Mine Rd as it is more sheltered. the cache contains the
usual items of interest and a log book for you to tell us your
tales.
