Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor is the location for the fourth cache hidden by caughtatwork.

Toccata - A composition for organ or harpsichord, free and bold in style consisting of runs and passages alternating with fugued or contrapuntal work, generally in equal notes with a flowing animated and repaid movement.

Fugue - The most highly developed form of contrapuntal imitation based on the principal of the equality of the parts, a theme proposed by one part being taken up successively by all participating parts thus bringing each in turn into special prominence.

These lava formations were formed about a million years ago when a massive lava flow, about 70 metres thick, spread over the plains from nearby volcanic hills. A surface crust formed and the lava beneath cooled very slowly and contracted. Vertical surface cracks developed, and as the lava continued to harden, the cracks lengthened until the basaltic mass was divided into columns. Over the next million years, Jacksons Creek cut a deep valley through the thick basalt layer to expose the formation known as 'the organ pipes'.

Walk down the path to view the vertical columns - a set of basalt columns formed by lava.
Walk upstream about 400 metres and see Rosette Rock - a radial array of basalt columns like the spokes of a wheel.
Another 300 meters upstream and you can look at the Tessellated Pavement - the tops of basalt columns.

Which formation the cache is at will be up to your GPSr to find.

The walk down to the formations is quite steep and the walk back up is very tiring indeed. Some of the walkways are paved and some are hardpacked dirt. To visit all three formations, you will need about 30-45 minutes plus another 15-20 minutes return. This does not include time to search for the cache.

The cache itself is a small traditional cache, around 375ml, disguised somewhat to match the surroundings.

Even though you are in a deep gully, you should receive a decent satellite signal (we had 6 at the time of hiding).

We have respected the environmental boundaries that are in place in the cache location, so even if you GPSr is pointing you into the fenced off environmental area, you will not find the cache inside the fence.

Parks Victoria advise that no dogs, bicycles or pets are permitted and that the park gates close at 4:30pm.

The afternoon was cloudy but it wasn't raining. This gave us an opportunity to venture to this national park for a short walk and do some caching. We located the cache reasonably easily. Took simlie face, dice and finger puppet. Left hippo, safety pin and giraffe. We tried to find a nearby cache in the park but the walking track was cut off by the river. We did have quite a bit of rain in the past week. TFTC.

Another cool spot that I didn't know existed. After grabbing the cache (TNLN) we were greeted by a wallaby and her littleun and a whole bunch of roo's up on the hills. As time was running out we'll have to come back to do the other cache in the area. Cheers.

On a bit of a tour of the western suburbs, I'd penciled in the two at this park to have a go at but, after my previous cache, it was raining quite steadily and I was very tempted to leave them for another day as I had no raincoat or umbrella. As it turned out, however, I'm really glad I didn't as they were the highlights of the day and I really enjoyed the solitude and stillness of the gorge with all the vegetation dripping wet. I guess I'd typically tend to visit this sort of park on a summery sort of day but, the cooler weather today really made things a lot more comfortable and the rain (which had stopped by the time I got there) made the bush wet and it seemed so much more "alive" than it does on those stinking hot summer days. The only real problem was the first part of the path down - it's asphalt and the rain had made it quite slippery and, after one slide (which didn't result in a fall!), I had to be very careful and was almost tip-toeing down - it was much easier on the way up! I saw a number of wallabies (one right next to my car when I got back to the car-park) and a few kangaroos - some of them hopping into the creek and swimming across. The park's slated attractions were very impressive too.

Thanks again caughtatwork - a fantastic spot indeed!
