Geocache Description:

The Au Sable Light Station is located 13 miles west of Grand Marias at Au Sable Point on Lake Superior.

The Au Sable Light Station was transferred to the National Park Service and is part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The National Park Service is in the process of restoring the lighthouse. The red brick lighthouse keepers dwelling and matching fog signal building are still standing.

Access to the station is a level 1.5 mile trail beginning at the east end of the Lower Hurricane River Campground. Along the trail there is a well marked place where you can take a side trip to see the shipwreaks that have washed ashore. This is a beautiful area and the trail is an easy walk. At certain times of the year, the mosquitoes and flies can be bad so it's best to be prepared.

To claim credit for this virtual cache, visit the lighthouse at the above coordinates and take a picture of yourself in front of the lighthouse. When logging this cache, include the photo with your log entry. Any "Found" log entry without the proper photo will be deleted. If you do not have a cell phone or camera you can email us with the year written in the concrete at the bottom of the steps at the south entrance of the Lighthouse Keeper's Quarters.
