Tern In Cache Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

Time for some Autumn clean-up before the snow begins to fall.

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of a timely response to a prior Reviewer Note and/or because the Cache Owner has not been online for several months. If the owner would like to have it reinstated, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

Stop by the Tern Lake picnic site, and accept the challenge of this multiple stage cache and crafty hide. This picnic area used to be a full U.S. Forest Service campground, before a meandering mountain stream washed out the loop road. There are often ducks, eagles, arctic terns, and swans to be seen, and there is a viewing platform to watch spawning salmon from July through September. It's also a fine rest stop when an outhouse is needed.

If you are traveling south from Anchorage, you will have to take the road fork towards Seward, and then turn towards Soldotna at the bottom of the hill. No left turn is available if you take the Soldotna fork. When the gate at the entrance is closed for the season, you will have to park there and walk the short distance into the site. At the posted coordinates, find a 3 digit number on a sign. The digits will add up to 16. Subtract the 3 digit number from 998. From the result, subtract the total number of timber steps where the road crosses the stream. The resulting number added to the original North minutes will give the North coordinate for the cache. Then, count the number of deck boards on the long part of the salmon viewing platform. Multiply that number by the number of stone pillars under the bench which sits on the beautiful point at the end of the newly constructed trail on the other side of the stream. Subtract that product from the original West minutes, and then add 58. The resulting number will be the West coordinate for the cache. Begin searching, look carefully and trust the coordinates, if you trust your math! Disregard the decimal point while calculating; add or substract from the entire five digit number.
