Multi Cache: Mysterious Places of the Gaume
The Legends:
This multicache leads you trough historical places and different legends in the most southern Belgian region: The Gaume. You’ll start at the foundations of a very old castle (unfortunetly there’s no much left). It was the castle built by the “4 fils d’Aymon” (4 sons of Aymon) who fought against Charles The Great because he killed their uncle. When you go to the second cache, it’s worthy to pas by a magic place (Trou Des Fées) at UTM 31U 684234 5499962 were once little Elves lived (…. or maybe they still do? …) the second cache is also situated in the middle of very old Ruins, a rest of the Roman reign in our countries. You will find all information there. The third micro cache is situated at a very strange source. When you take a closer look, you will see that it turns everything on its way into stone! The final cache is a forgotten build-up place in the middle of the forest. There are no ways to it. Just your GPS can show you the right way … maybe.
The Idea:
There are 3 micro caches that contain information to find the final stash. They only will give you the distance to that stash and the coordinates for the next micro cache. Just like your GPS needs at least three satellites to locate his position, it works the same way.
The micro caches:
Cache 1: 31U 0683762 5500065
You will find a few piles of stones of about 1 meter high. Look for the pile with one white stone upon it. Under the white stone you will find a blue-white rope…
Cache 2: Look for a wall of about 40 meters long positioned from NW to NE. At the NE head of the wall, look for a stone with a blue-white rope wrapped around; under some death leafs. Recover afterwards!
Cache 3: Leave the small road and start climbing alongside the waterfall. Where the water comes out the ground, look for a blue-white rope wrapped around a small fallen tree.
The final stash: Very spooky place! I discovered it by coincidence, because there are no ways that lead to it! It must have been a very ancient, small factory or forge, nobody knows. You will see that there are even no recent human traces (only if all the Cachers respect this site !!), so really abandoned. Be careful, the trees will mess up a bit the connection with the satellites, so don’t think too fast you're on the right way! Look for stairs that goes undergrounds and go down...
You’ll need: a compass with ruler (ore something to draw lines and measure angles), a sheet of checked paper (geruit papier, une feuille quadrillé), a pair of compasses (een passer,un compas), a pencil and of course your GPS unit from witch you will have to know how to project a waypoint and how to convert between UTM and degrees,minutes (look it up!).
How it works: If you don't have a map; Draw a UTM-grid on your sheet, take 5 cm for 1 Km, draw the micro caches at the correct positions in your grid, draw circles (use the scale!!) to find the common distance. Draw a line from micro cache 3 to this common point and measure the angle (remember a circle has 360°!). Now project waypoint Mcache 3 to this range and bearing and you will find the cache!
(By the UTM coordinates: 31U indicates a part of the worldwide grid. the first 7 numbers from east to west; the second 7 numbers from south to north. 1st number: pro 1000 Km; 2nd pro 100Km; 3rd pro 10 Km and so on)

Cette Multicache vous mène au travers d’endroits historiques et de différentes légendes dans la région la plus méridionale de la Belgique: La Gaume.
Vous commencez sur les fondations d'un très vieux château (malheureusement, il n’en reste pas grand chose). C'était le château construit par « les 4 fils Aymon » qui ont lutté contre Charles Magne lorsqu'il a tué leur oncle.
Lorsque vous allez vers la deuxième cachette, il est digne de passer par un endroit magique (Le trou des fées) à UTM 31U 684234 5499962 où vivaient nos petits Elfes (… peut-être y sont ils toujours ? … )
La deuxième cachette est également située au milieu des ruines très vieilles, un reste du règne romain dans nos pays. Vous trouverez toute l'information là.
La troisième microcache est située à une très étrange source. Quand vous regardez en détail, vous verrez qu'elle transforme tout en pierre sur son chemin !
La cache finale est une construction oubliée au milieu de la forêt. Aucun chemin n’y mène. Seul votre GPS peut vous indiquer la route … Peut-être.
Cache 1 : 31 U 0683762 5500065. Vous trouverez quelques piles de pierres d'environ 1 mètre de haut.
Recherchez la pile avec une pierre blanche. Sous cette pierre, vous trouverez une corde bleue et blanche…
Cache 2 : Recherchez un mur d'environ 40 mètres de long placé du NW au NE. À la tête NE du mur, recherchez une pierre entourée d’une corde bleu et blanche. Sous quelques feuilles mortes. Veillez à bien recouvrir après !
Cache 3 : Laissez la petite route et commencez à grimper à côté de la chute d'eau. Là où l'eau sort de la terre,recherchez une corde bleue et blanche enroulée autour d'un petit arbre tombé.
La cache finale : Endroit très fantasmagorique ! Je l'ai découvert par hasard car aucun chemin n’y mène !
Cet endroit était, sans doute, une très ancienne usine ou une forge.Personne ne sait. Vous n’y verrez même aucune trace d’activité humaine récente (si tous les cachers respectent cet endroit). C’est vraiment abandonné. Attention, les arbres rendront la réception satellite difficile,ne pensez pas trop rapidement être sur la bonne voie. Cherchez les escaliers
qui conduisent en sous-sol et descendez…
Vous aurez besoin d’une boussole graduée (ou n’importe quoi d’autre pouvant tracer des lignes et mesurer des angles), d’une feuille de papier quadrillé,un compas, un crayon et, évidemment, votre GPS avec lequel vous devrez
savoir projeter un point et convertir les coordonnées de UTM vers degrés,
minutes (vérifiez avant !).
Comment cela marche : Si vous n'avez pas de carte d'état major: Dessinez une grille UTM sur votre feuille, prenez 5 centimètres pour 1 kilomètre, dessinez les microcaches aux positions correctes sur votre grille, tracez un cercle pour trouver la distance commune (utilisez l’échelle !). Tracez une ligne de la microcache 3 à ce point commun et mesurez l'angle (rappelez-vous qu'un cercle fait 360° !).
Projetez maintenant le point M cache 3 à cette distance et à cet angle et
vous trouverez la cache !
(Pour les coordonnées d'UTM : 31U indique une partie de la grille mondiale.
les 7 premiers nombres d'Est vers Ouest ; les 7 seconds nombres du Sud vers
le Nord. 1er nombre : pour 1000 kilomètres ; 2eme pour 100Km ; 3èmes pour 10
kilomètres et ainsi de suite).
