I never hear it anymore, but there used to be a radio advertiser who ended his spots by reminding you
that his business was "at the Top of the Hill - Daly City."
Apparently Daly City has been known as "The Top of the Hill" ever since John Daly started his
dairy farm there in the 1860s. The top of the hill was where the road forked and went to either Mission Dolores or the Presidio.
This hill isn't anywhere near Daly City, and there's more elevation
ahead, but it's one of the steepest grades on the Canada De Pala trail. If you find this cache you deserve to stop
and smile - you've made it to the top of the hill.
