Geocache Description:

Not a far walk from the parking area. The terrain is fairly easy making it great for kids. PLEASE NOTE THE CACHE IS NOT IN ANY OF THE "STONE WALLS".

This Cache is located at a historical location in town. This used to be the location of an 18th century stage coach stop. The Actual front steps are still located at the site, with a nice memorial plaque. The name of the Tavern was “Sampson Tavern” which was a nice friendly stop for people that may have been traveling from New Bedford to Boston by horse drawn coach. Sampson’s Tavern closed in 1869, but not before at least one famous guest paid a visit to Lakeville and also may have wet his whistle at the tavern. Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) was a great writer who is best know for his book “ Walden; or, life in the woods”. The location has a small parking lot and if the weather is nice it has 2 grills, 2 picnic tables, and plenty of room for children to play. The Cache is a black aluminum container. It has a log book, pencils, and is big enough for travel bugs and other small surprises. As far as the travel bugs go, I think it’s a pretty cool location for them, seeing how people who were traveling many years ago also used this location to rest.
